OakBend to Open Wound Care Center

Richmond,
TEXAS - December 4, 2007 - OakBend Medical Center together with the
Rosenberg-Richmond Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a Ribbon Cutting
Ceremony to celebrate the opening of a new Wound Care & Hyperbaric
Center. This state-of-the-art outpatient center offers advanced
technologies and proven clinical protocols in the treatment of chronic,
non-healing wounds. The center’s ultimate goal is to heal patients’
wounds as quickly and safely as possible and prevent amputations.
About
six million people suffer from chronic, non-healing wounds—a serious
disorder that can lead to amputation of limbs and dramatically impaired
quality of life. Associated with inadequate circulation, poorly
functioning veins and immobility, non-healing wounds occur most
frequently in people with diabetes.
The
Wound Care Center is at the forefront of advanced treatment and offers
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT), which provides patients with 100
percent, pure oxygen in a pressurized chamber. HBOT promotes
accelerated wound healing, increase the oxygen delivery to injured
tissues, improve infection control, improve blood vessel formation and
save some damaged tissue.
The
OakBend Wound Care team comprises physicians, nurses, physical
therapists, and technicians who are dedicated to treating wounds that
have resisted healing after many months and even after years of
traditional treatment. The Wound Care Center under Medical Director,
John Butler M.D., will begin to see patients in January 2008.
Joe
Freudenberger, Acting CEO commented, “We are very excited to be able to
offer this new service at OakBend, as it is very much needed. The
Wound Care Center is representative of our overall strategy to develop
services which match the health care needs of our community”.
The Wound Care & Hyperbaric Center at OakBend is conveniently located on the 1st floor of the hospital and for more information, contact: Tim McCarty, Director of Wound Care
