Blood Drive

The OakBend Medical Center Auxiliary sponsors the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center's blood drive and participates in the Commit for Life Program. Blood is used to aid critically ill patients, accident victims, surgical patients and those patients suffering chronic diseases such as cancer and leukemia. Because blood can be divided into three components - red blood cells, plasma and platelets, a single pint of blood may help to save the lives of up to three patients.

When: 3rd Monday each month
Where: Hospital Classrooms 1:00 - 5:00 pm
How: Make an appointment by calling:
Volunteers 281-633-4015 or
online - Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center

Walk-ins are also welcome, however those with appointments will be given priority and there may be a wait.

Donations of whole blood, plasma and platelets are collected on alternating months. Donors are eligible to donate every 8 weeks.

What Is Commit for Life?
It is a partnership between Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center and its donors that is focused on saving lives, today and in the future.

How Do I Commit for Life?
Three Easy Steps:

1. Donate once per quarter
We're asking you to take one hour of your time each quarter to help save lives by donating blood.

2. Allow us to contact you
We would like to be able to contact you from time to time to let you know how your commitment is making a difference. We'll give you information on news, stories, and your next appointment. You choose the way in which you would like to be contacted: e-mail, phone, or mail.

3. Spread the word
Nothing is more powerful than hearing our message from someone who has chosen to Commit for Life. Talk to friends and family. Get them involved. |

Why?
There is no substitute for blood. It has to come from one person in order to give to another. A critical number of voluntary donations are required every day to meet the need for blood in the Texas Gulf Coast region. However, we are consistently falling short and falling short means we may not have enough lifesaving blood for someone who needs it.
