Open Heart Procedures Now Provided at OakBend Medical Center

OakBend Medical Center now provides full service cardiac care as Janie Becerra Martinez discovered last week! When Mrs. Martinez arrived in the Emergency Department by EMS two weeks ago with shortness of breath, she had no idea what an important role she would play in the future of healthcare in the Rose-Rich Community. Upon determining that the patient was suffering from congestive heart failure, she agreed to become the first patient to receive open heart surgery at OakBend Medical Center in Richmond, Texas.

OakBend Employees Are Incredible

“Do you realize that you guys (OakBend Medical Center) are incredible?”  This question was asked of OakBend Medical Center’s CEO, Joe Freudenberger, by one of The Joint Commission surveyors at the conclusion of OakBend’s tri-annual survey on April 2, 2009.  The surveyor went on to say that OakBend’s staff are so good he and his colleagues would come to OakBend for their own care.

“In 23 years in healthcare I have never heard a Joint Commission surveyor be so complimentary,” said Freudenberger.  “We know that our award winning care comes from our award winning employees, but it is extremely gratifying to have this confirmed by The Joint Commission.”

The Hospital completed their 2009 Joint Commission Survey the first week of April and by demonstrating compliance with The Joint Commission's national standards for health care quality and safety, OakBend Medical Center has earned The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval™.

The hospital not only demonstrated compliance, but did exceptionally well on the survey.  Out of the 287 compliance standards, The Joint Commission typically asks good hospitals to improve in 7 – 10 areas and some local hospitals have been asked to improve in over 20 areas.  For OakBend, an “incredible” hospital, they only identified 2 areas for attention.
